President Draupadi Murmu appoints Justice D.Y. Chandrachud as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI).
Justice D.Y. Chandrachud is set to assume office with effect from 9thNovember,22.
Justice Uday Umesh Lalit
demits office at the age of 65.
CJI Justice D.Y. Chandrachud will demit office on November 10, 2024.
CJI Justice D.Y. Chandrachud is also former Chief Justice of Allahabad Court and also served as a judge of the Bombay High Court.
Presently, he is in the position of senior most Supreme Court Judge after Justice U.U. Lalit.
Father of D.Y. Chandrachud was the 16th CJI.His father was the longest-serving Chief Justice.
D.Y. Chandrachud currently serving as the executive chairman of NALSA (National Legal Services Authority).
